Take in the Galapagos Islands on the New Celebrity Flora.
Forget everything you think you know about cruises. This one is different.
Celebrity Flora is the first cruise ship that was designed and built specifically for the destination that it will sail: the Galapagos Islands. As such, the Flora features floor-to-ceiling windows throughout for observing the wildlife and landscapes of these islands that are like nowhere else on earth.
Why Visit the Galapagos.
The Galapagos Islands are famous for their white sand beaches, warm turquoise waters, and their distinct eco-system and wildlife. This makes them one of the most sought-after travel destinations in the world, topping many a wanderer’s bucket list of must-see places.
The Galapagos are home to giant tortoises, marine iguanas, and sea lions. They are a bird-watchers paradise where you can see everything from the pink flamingo to the blue-footed booby.
The waters are teaming with tropical fish, manta rays, crab, sea urchins, and an abundance of other sea-life making them a prized destination for swimming, snorkeling, and scuba diving.
Because these remote islands – located about 1,000 kilometres off the coast of Ecuador – are a UNESCO protected World Heritage Site, the number of visitors is restricted. This makes it easy to get away from it all and see these exotic, unspoiled islands without crowds of tourists.
The lack of light pollution from any big cities also makes the Galapagos an unparalleled spot for star gazing.
Glamping the Galapagos.
Celebrity Cruises Flora offers guests the opportunity to experience those spectacular night skies like never before. The ship has its own telescope-equipped stargazing platform and gives travellers the opportunity to dine, drink, and even sleep under the stars.
The ‘glamping’ experience (a word derived from glamorous camping), allows guests to enjoy an al-fresco meal, and then spend the night in a top deck cabana. While an expert offers a guided tour of the endless stars and constellations above, guests will be served wine, cocktails, and even s’mores to complete the camping experience.
Much like regular camping, those sleeping under the stars will likely be woken in the morning by the rising sun. And this sunrise over the Galapagos Islands seen from the deck of a ship will be one that travellers will almost certainly never forget.
Every stateroom on Celebrity Flora is a spacious suite, many of which feature the “Infinite Verandas” that Celebrity Cruises first introduced on the Edge ship. This cabin design seamlessly blends the indoors with the outdoors as a movable glass wall transforms more stateroom space into a private outdoor balcony and back with the push of a button.
Those floor-to-ceiling windows – which are found in most public areas and cabins – mean that the spectacular views of the islands are never far from sight.
Celebrity Flora has her own on-board marina that can accommodate three Zodiac boats at once, reducing transport time between land and ship. This will allow guests to spend more time on shore exploring the unique landscapes, hiking trails, and beaches.
While on the ship, travellers can enjoy Celebrity Flora’s Observatory, a glass-enclosed lounge and library dedicated to the Galapagos Islands, offering stunning views from the top of the ship or they can take in the entertaining and informative presentations in the Discovery Lounge.
Darwin’s Cove and the Naturalist Center both offer guests a bounty of information on the destination, wildlife and the environmental efforts being made to preserve the natural wonder of the Galapagos.
Flora also features an outdoor lounge with 360-degree views, loungers, and private cabanas called The Vista. The ship provides travellers a variety of indoor and outdoor dining options as well as complementary 24/7 room service for in-suite meals.
An Eco-Friendly Sail.
To help preserve the natural beauty and unique wildlife that the Galapagos Islands are famous for, Celebrity Flora has also been equipped with the latest environmentally-friendly innovations, including anchorless technology (dynamic positioning) for maintaining the ship’s location without harming the ocean floor below. Celebrity Flora also has in-room water filtration to eliminate the need for bottled water and energy-efficient engines that reduce both fuel consumption and emissions.
The Celebrity Flora will be sailing alternating 10- and 11-night cruises of the inner and outer loops of the Galapagos Islands beginning in May. Check out the upcoming departure dates and book a once-in-a-lifetime experience of this natural wonder today.
