I was fortunate enough to recently attend the grand opening of Disney’s Pandora – The World of Avatar, which is located within Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park.

James Cameron and Disney have come together to create a wonderful world of immersive pleasure that will leave you in awe of this mind-blowing experience.  While the movie was revolutionary and exceptional, this creation is literally an adventure that is out of this world.

As a guest, you will join Alpha Centauri Expeditions (ACE) on a magical adventure that will place you on a winged banshee as you enter an enchanting world of floating mountains and a bioluminescent forest.

Walt Disney World is known for their meticulous attention to detail, but with Pandora, the level of craftsmanship and design has even surpassed their own standards. Everything has been thoroughly thought-out to the most minute detail and it is evident in the surroundings. Wherever you look, whether on the floor, to the side and above you, you will appreciate the magnitude of this massive undertaking – it’s beyond belief. The flora and landscape have been carefully crafted to ensure you are truly immersed in a magical planet.

No stone has been left unturned –  the staff and entertainers in the park have learned the Na’vi language and the history of Pandora and play the role to perfection. This adds to the realism of the whole experience. But I was really impressed when I went to buy a Banshee and the saleslady placed it in a box, like you would when you purchase a kitten or puppy from a pet store. Upon giving me the box she said “Please make sure not to keep the Banshee in the box for more than 2 hours because the oxygen supply will diminish. And just like on earth, never leave a living being in direct sunlight because it will expire from the heat.” Wow!

Disney's pandora's world of wonders.

A couple of the rides:

Na’vi River Journey.

Guests travel down a sacred river deep into a bioluminescent rainforest. Aboard reed boats, they float past exotic glowing plants and Pandora creatures into the midst of a musical Na’vi ceremony. The mystical journey culminates in an encounter with the breathtaking Na’vi Shaman of songs whom is deeply connected with Pandora’s life force and sends positive energy into the forest through her music.

Flight of Passage.

For me, this is the best ride I have ever encountered at Disney. Avatar Flight of Passage puts you on a winged mountain banshee that launches each guest on an exhilarating experience over the awe-inspiring world of Pandora. Guest will actually feel the Banshee breathe beneath them as they soar through the forest and pass floating mountains. They will also feel the wind on their face as they fly, will get sprayed with mist as they near waterfalls and oceans, smell the forest, the flowers and the ocean. What was a rite of passage for Na’vi in Cameron’s film becomes a multisensory experience for guests seeking the ultimate adventure – an encounter with the most feared predator of Pandora, the Great Leonopteryx. Simply amazing as only Disney Imagineers can do.

There are no words or images that can portray what I recently witnessed and I urge you to take the family and experience it for yourself. It’s a magical masterpiece and you will thoroughly enjoy yourselves.
