It’s Sun and Stars Above the Sea on the New Sky Princess℠.
Experience the very best of cruising. At the recent Cruise Critic Editors Awards, Princess Cruises won the top honours, Best for Cabins, Itineraries and Shore Excursions. That combination of top accommodations, destinations, and daytrips makes for an ideal vacation. Princess Cruises has brought all of their award-winning expertise together to create their newest ship, the Sky Princess℠. Launching later in 2019, the vessel has already been named one of the top 10 new ships for 2019 by CNN Travel.
When you think of going on a cruise, the first thing that comes to mind is likely catching some rays on the deck or swimming in the sparkling waters of the pools under the hot sun. All that warm sunshine does sound pretty great in the middle of our Canadian winter. However, with the Sky Princess, it might be the endless stars over the nighttime ocean sky that steal the show.
Some of the biggest buzz about this new ship focuses on the Sky Suites, the largest cabins the cruise line offers.
The Sky Suites.
Sky Suites are two-bedroom, two-bathroom accommodations for up to five people with lots of entertaining space for larger groups, making them ideal for family or group vacations. Located on the top deck of the ship, the Sky Suites offer 270-degree panoramic views of the ship and the seas.
One of the most noteworthy features of the Sky Suites is the balcony. These private decks are 700 square feet and are furnished with a dining table, lounge chairs, and a day bed. They also have an exterior bar and television, so guests can enjoy their own private outdoor entertaining space day or night.
If it’s night, you can also catch a movie on the big screen right from your balcony. That’s because the Sky Suite decks are strategically located for viewing the ship’s Movie Under the Stars® screen.
While the ship features tons of activities and amenities for a fun filled adventure, you’ll be forgiven if you never want to leave the luxury of your own private oasis under the sun and stars.
Added perks of staying in a Sky Suite include a complimentary mini-bar setup, priority specialty dining and shore excursion reservations, as well as priority disembarking at tender ports.
Even if you’re not lucky enough to be staying in a Sky Suite, you’re most likely to have your own private outdoor space. The vast majority (80 per cent) of the cabins on Sky Princess have balconies.
Movies Under the Stars®.
Sky Princess gives you a great reason to hit the pool area at night as well as during the daylight hours. That’s because, on most clear nights, movies are played on a 300-square foot screen over the main pool.
The deck chairs are covered with cushions and fleece blankets and the poolside service includes popcorn, snacks, and specialty cocktails. The big screens are sometimes also used for showing live events such as major sporting matches or awards shows.
More Outdoor Spaces.
The Sky Princess also features an infinity-style Wakeview pool attached to a deck with a bar on its rear decks (or aft decks as they say at sea), offering swimmers unobstructed views of the horizon from the back of the ship.
Sky Princess also has two deep-tank pools, linked by sunken, communal seating, with two cantilevered Jacuzzis, as well as a host of other hot tubs and the adults-only Retreat pool. Also just for the grownups, the ship offers a redesigned Sanctuary area that has twice as many private cabanas as on other Princess ships.
Like other Princess Cruise line ships, Sky Princess features an Italian-inspired, three-deck Piazza connected by wide staircases. There is a large dance floor, with shops, bars and cafes overlooking the action. This is a central hang-out area where the crew hosts events such as the Captain’s Welcome Cocktail Party.
Dining options on Sky Princess include a poolside grill, a pizzeria, a café/sandwich shop, and of course the World Fresh Marketplace, which is the ship’s main buffet. There is also an impressive variety of specialty restaurants for steaks, seafoods, and fine dining options.
For drinks, passengers can enjoy everything from pints and cocktails at the British-style Wheelhouse Pub to fine wines at Vines wine bar.
You can also order 24/7 room service to enjoy a meal under the stars on the privacy of your own deck. And if you happen to be in one of the Sky Suites, you can host catered events on those giant balconies.
Sky Princess will be sailing around New York, New England and Eastern Canada, as well as offering cruises in the Caribbean and the Mediterranean later this year. Check out the upcoming departures and destinations and be one of the first passengers to sail on this new ship.
