Autumn is a special time of year partly due to Halloween. After all, who doesn’t love quirky and adorable costumes, endless treats, dollar store decorations, and all the glorious pumpkins available at pumpkin patches throughout Ontario? If you want to create the perfect jack-o-lantern you need the perfect pumpkin. These Halloween-themed spooktacular road trips have everything you need at the farm including corn mazes, wagon rides, locally grown produce, bakeries, markets, and bright orange pumpkins in every size.
For all things pumpkin pack up the car and drive to Hutchinson Farm in Burlington. They are known for their exciting multi coloured pumpkins including red, white, and blue, and of course the traditional orange pumpkins in every size under the rainbow. There are also tiny pumpkin gourds and prizewinning Atlantic Giant pumpkins that are so big they can barely be lifted. These monsters weigh hundreds of pounds and are over a hundred dollars, but you will be sure to catch the attention of every trick or treater knocking on your door. Choose your favourite jack-o-lantern in their pumpkin patch after a tour of the unique pumpkin museum.
Strom’s Farm and Bakery in Guelph has pumpkin-themed fun for the whole family. There is a straw maze, rope maze, pedal cars, sand pit, puppet show, and a six-acre corn maze. What began as a second-generation family farm in 1978 from a love of sweet corn later added pumpkins in 1996. These days their pumpkin selection is massive and excited customers can choose from many varieties including large Monster Smash 60 pound pumpkins, tall and skinny Jumping Jack pumpkins, smooth Cannonballs, white Cotton Candy pumpkins, a Wolf variety with an extra long stem, and even mini Baby Boos. Save time for their market and bakery and you definitely won’t leave empty handed.
The Downey’s Farm Market is famous for their local fresh goodies and unique Pumpkinfest celebrations. Located in Brampton on 215 acres they offer pumpkin themed entertainment, an eight-acre corn maze, boo barn, straw jump, make your own scarecrows, slides and pedal carts. They literally have thousands of pumpkins to choose from on their farm so every member of your family can choose their own. The market is packed with Ontario produce direct from their field so you can purchase everything you need for your Halloween feast.
There are thousands of pumpkins waiting to be purchased at Howells Family Pumpkin Farm located in the Niagara Region. Ranging from ginormous pumpkins to little mini gourds they also sell delicious pumpkin themed treats in the market. Attractions include scenic wagon rides around the farm, a haunted spook barn, a puzzling corn maze complete with lookout tower, an original bucking cow train, a jumping haystack pillow, and a tricycle track for the younger ones.
