Preparing Your Car for the Year Ahead.

The new year is a great time to take stock of the past 12 months and make a checklist of things to do in the New Year. Assessing your vehicle is no exception. Here are some simple ways to make sure your vehicle is ready for the year ahead.

Wash & Go.

The downside of Canadian winters is all that salt on the roads; it can wreak havoc on your car by causing rust and corrosion. Get rid of salt with regular visits to the car wash or giving your car a quick hose down.  Wash off your rubber car mats too. Wait for the weather to warm up to do your exterior wash though; the last thing you want are frozen car doors and windows!

Wiper Watch.

Windshield wipers can bear the brunt of winter, especially when freezing temperatures causes them to stick to the glass and misshapes them. See if your wiper blades are surviving winter intact by noting any streaks or missed spots when you use them. If needed, replace them – there will likely be a few more snowfalls before the snow melts.

Fluid Check.

Have a look at your owner’s manual to see when you’re due for an oil change. Also, check your windshield fluid and antifreeze too so that you’re ready for those temperature dips and messy roads ahead.

Spare a Minute for Your Spare.

You never know when you might need your spare tire, so checking that it’s properly inflated every so often is a good idea. Next time you’re at the gas station, check its pressure at the air pump. Colder weather affects tire pressure, so consult your owner’s manual for the recommended cold tire inflation PSI. Once the weather warms up, you’ll want to do this again.

Policy Review.

Icy roads and blizzards can create hazardous winter driving conditions so, you’ll want to ensure that your car insurance still covers your needs. Let a licensed Insurance Agent at CAA Insurance review your policy for free even if it’s with another provider.

The bottom line – being prepared for any situation is smart. By making sure your auto insurance is ready for the year ahead, you’ll feel more in control and ready to face whatever comes your way.
