“Good Morning Vietnam” Let’s Take a Cruise.
Cambodia and Vietnam are destinations that are not typically on everyone’s list, but they should be. I recently discovered how amazing this region is and travelling with AMAWaterways just made it special. Here are some of the places we visited and some of the things we got to enjoy there – Hanoi (City tour & rickshaw ride), Kampong-Chhnang (Motor boat excursion into lakeside wetlands), Tan Chau (Visit craftsmen’s workshops and village Trishaw ride) and Sa Dec (Visit to local market and temple).
I want to share some of the highlights with you so that you can go and experience what I have been fortunate enough to enjoy. Let’s start with how wonderful the people are and how welcoming and inviting they are. They’re quick to help and also guide you if you seem lost . They are just super friendly and happy to share their country with you. Prepare to be amazed by what you’ll see and experience., Kampong-Tralach, Sa Dec and Ho Chi Minh City
The food – I found the food to be exceptional. A wonderful variety of regional dishes and western favourites and you will have a hard time deciding what to eat or sample. If by chance you prefer to munch on something more akin to home you’ll find loads of restaurants serving all types of international foods.
The service and crew – The crew went above and beyond and nothing was too much for them. They’re a friendly bunch and just made my trip seamless and enjoyable.
The guides – Good local guides makes all the difference. The guides lined up from AmaWaterways were outstanding and their knowledge of their countries and sites was exemplary. You’ll learn a lot as we did. We appreciated their openness on some really difficult topics and their personal stories made everything more meaningful. There is so much to see, learn and experience and it is worth taking the time to ensure you have a guide that will not only show you the places of beauty but share with you the vast stories that you may or may not know. It’s a cultural experience and worth the time.
The ship – I’m new to river cruising and it was more than I could have ever imagined. From the moment I set foot on this vessel I was taken a back by just how beautiful everything was. From the wood accents to the colourful displays, everything was tastefully decorated and designed. It was amazing to discover how exquisite and serene river cruising can actually be. My stateroom was really nice, well laid out and offered me a comfortable abode while on my trip. There was a great lounge area and dining room and even a sun deck, pool and small gym. Video and book library were a nice touch and there was even a spa.
River cruising is social. You’re likely to meet nice folks from around the world, as I did and it was great to mingle and chat freely.
Overall, it’s hard to pick just one highlight and I’m sure you’ll feel the same way. Be prepared to take lots of pictures as this is a vacation you’ll definitely want to share and remember.
