Five Fun Facts About Barbados You Probably Didn’t Know About.
When you think about going on a trip to the Caribbean, the first destinations that come to everyone’s mind are Jamaica, Dominican Republic and Cuba. But what about Barbados?
Nestled in in the eastern Caribbean and surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, this island boasts picturesque views, a vibrant culture, mouthwatering foods and one-of-a-kind experiences you can only imagine. Here are five fun facts about Barbados you probably haven’t heard about and why it’s a must-visit place for your next beach vacation.
1. All-inclusive Resorts to Escape the Ordinary.
White sands, breathtaking waters and luxury living. That’s what you’ll get at two of the islands best resorts – Sandals Barbados and Turtle Beach Resorts.
Sandals Barbados features three unique villages, world-class dining experiences, beautiful beachfront views, sophisticated rooms and suites and has Barbados’ largest and longest lagoon pool for an authentic Caribbean touch. This resort is perfect for couples and singles!
Described as the ultimate all-inclusive beach resort for families, the Turtle Beach Resort is a retreat like no other. With award-wining service and beautiful suites and rooms, staying here will create unforgettable memories for the entire family! It features six elegant hotels and from complimentary water sports, to golfing, and even special activities for couples, there is something for everyone.
2. Celebrity Vacation Hot Spot.
Believe it or not, Barbados is a destination where some of Hollywood’s biggest stars and athletes wind down like Simon Cowell, supermodel Cara Delevingne, Lewis Hamilton, Tiger Woods (who got married on the island) and so much more. Also did you know popstar Rihanna was born and raised in Barbados? The Bajan beauty is native to this unique island and has a $22-million dollar beachfront home located on One Sandy Lane. She recently had a street named after her called “Rihanna Drive”.
3. Live like a Local During Grand Kadooment.
If you’re looking for a party like no other, Kadooment Day is for you. Also known as Crop Over, it takes place on the first Monday of August and is a parade like no other. The streets are flooded with vibrant colours, feathers, gems and electric soca and calypso music. Think of it as Carnival, Bajan style, showcasing the nation’s culture. And it’s one of the most popular carnivals in the Caribbean.
4. Take in Nature at Harrison’s Cave.
Harrison’s Cave is the ultimate island attraction and is a must-see for all tourists. This natural wonder is a massive underground cave stream system, covered with crystalized formations (stalagmites) hanging from the roof of the cave, and waterfalls you can see on a tram for a phenomenal underground experience. This is the perfect trip for a nature enthusiast.
