3 Tips for Cutting Down on Clutter for the Holidays

If you’re looking for a reason to declutter your home, look no further than the arrival of the holiday season. Not only do you get to make room for guests (and presents!), but you’ll also avoid waking up five years down the road wondering “where did all this stuff come from?”. The downside? It’s never easy, and rarely ever fun. But if you’re planning on putting your foot down and clearing out the clutter, remember to keep these three tips in mind:

Build a team

Don’t go it alone! Taking on a home decluttering project by yourself can feel like a daunting task. If you’re cohabitating with family or friends, work together to divvy up the job and speed up the process. If everyone chips in, your weekend project can be over in just a few short hours!

The gradual move out

Decluttering doesn’t have to mean “throwing things out.” At least not right away. Many of us are protective about our stuff because it holds sentimental value or might come in handy someday. Instead of tossing your “must-have” items, put them in a box and tuck them away for 3 months. If you haven’t needed or missed them in 90 days, it’ll be a lot easier to justify letting go.

Ask the experts

Once you’ve got everything boxed up and squared away, you’ve got two options: haul it to the dump yourself, or call the experts at 1-800-GOT-JUNK?. If you opt for the experts, take advantage of this Member-exclusive, limited-time offer: CAA Members SAVE 15% on junk removal until November 30! 1-800-GOT-JUNK? are experts in removing, donating, recycling and and properly disposing of everything from home appliances to construction and estate cleanout.
